Until We Meet Again, Teta ❤️

A few days ago, my cherished grandma passed away peacefully in the hospital, before she could even undergo her heart operation. She was 92!

I will miss hearing her voice, seeing her elegant, composed smile and her beautiful green eyes. My visits to Lebanon will never be the same without her presence.

Growing up, I shared a wonderful bond with her, and I feel so lucky to have spent so much precious time with her. I remember watching her cook and learning some of her culinary secrets.

Granny was an exceptional woman in every sense of the word: a devoted grandmother, cultured, elegant, and a lady of impeccable taste. I would be lucky if, at 90, I looked even half as good as she did!

She earned the love and respect of all her grandchildren through her generosity and kind deeds. She was a woman of her word, and she only gave us compliments when she truly meant them. She was like a shining star, radiating light, elegance, and love to everyone around her. Anyone who knew her will always tell you what a remarkable woman she was!

I am blessed to be part of this loving family, and we all owe so much of that to you, Teta! We will forever cherish all the beautiful memories we shared with you. Your spirit, kindness, and compassion will be deeply missed. Beirut was a much better place with you in it!

She was also a fantastic cook. She prepared her food with so much love and affection, and the wonderful aromas that filled her kitchen remain part of a beautiful memory that comes flooding back to me every now and then.

Whatever we called her—Granny, Teta, or Roro—to me, they all meant the same thing: a beautiful lady who radiated love, positivity, and sunshine.

The most beautiful memories I have of Teta Roro are intertwined with the aromas that filled her kitchen and the love she poured into every dish she prepared. I was lucky to grow up watching her cook, learning little by little the secrets behind her delicious recipes, from Shish Barak and Kibbeh Bil Laban to her delicate stuffed zucchini, grape leaves, and cabbage rolls. I watched her prepare her soups with care, shape her kibbeh with such skill, and bring every dish to life with her own special touch. Whether it was Sayadieh, Pumpkin Kibbeh, Lebanese stuffed zucchini and eggplant, or her simple yet comforting vegan beans, everything she made carried a little piece of her heart. She taught me more than how to cook; she taught me that food is a language of love, a way of bringing family together, preserving traditions, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Today, every recipe I prepare brings me closer to her, reminding me of her hands at work, her presence in the kitchen, and the warmth that surrounded her. Although she is no longer physically with us, her love lives on in every flavor, every aroma, and every dish I make. These recipes are my precious inheritance from her, a beautiful part of her legacy that I will carry forward and share with the generations to come. Teta Roro, every time I cook one of your recipes, I will feel you beside me, and your love will continue to nourish our family for generations. Until we meet again, my beautiful Teta. ❤️

Your loving granddaughter,
Hadia
