Fried Banana Balls

Do you need a dessert that can be ready in 20 minutes? There are times where I crave sweets but don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen. The first thing that comes to my mind is this treasured recipe that was handed down to me 20 years ago by a friend of mine. One of my favorite ways to use my over-ripe bananas. These banana balls are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside – delicious and easy to put together.

Recipe ingredients:

  • Bananas: Ripe or overripe bananas add natural sweetness to the fried banana balls
  • All-purpose flour: The binding agent
  • Powdered sugar: the sweetener
  • Baking powder: The leavening agent
  • Water:  To thin a bit the batter
  • Sunflower or any neutral oil for deep frying

If you are feeding a big crowd, you might need to make a double batch. Simply mash the bananas, mix in the flour, baking powder, and some water. Using a spoon, scoop the batter in the hot oil and deep fry to a golden color. Easy enough, right? Heavenly delicious!!

How to make the Fried Banana Balls?

  • Mash the bananas with a fork to a puree consistensy.
  • Mix everything together: Add the flour, powdered sugar, baking powder, and water, mix well to obtain a thick batter.
  •  Fritters need to maintain their form and not run when they hit the oil, your batter should be sturdy and thick, and please do not overstir your batter.
  • Heat the oil in a pan or a wok to an adequate frying temperature.
  • Scoop and fry: Using a teaspoon, scoop into balls one at a time and dip, in batches, in the hot oil.
  • Brown the balls: The balls must be fried under medium temperature to ensure complete cooking and even browning.
  • Drain and enjoy warm: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.
