An Authentic Lebanese Family Staple

Have you ever tried spaghetti with yogurt? Growing up, this simple, comforting dish was a staple in our home, just as it is in many Lebanese households. Made with a handful of basic ingredients, this traditional Lebanese spaghetti with yogurt is creamy, delicious, and wonderfully easy to prepare. Best of all, you can have it on the table in less than 20 minutes, making it perfect for a quick, satisfying meal whenever you’re craving a taste of home!

The Ultimate Effortless Comfort Meal for Busy Days

This is the ultimate comfort meal that always pops into my mind when managing a hectic schedule. Believe it or not, the most time-consuming part of this entire dish is simply boiling the pasta! Once your noodles are ready, all that is left to do is gently sauté fresh garlic in warm olive oil, whisk it into a creamy yogurt base, and adjust the salt to your liking. Smother that rich, aromatic sauce over your piping-hot spaghetti, and et voilà—dinner is served! It is a budget-friendly, effortless recipe designed to satisfy your deepest hunger on a busy day. Sautéing the garlic directly in extra virgin olive oil provides the delicate yogurt sauce with a magnificent depth of flavor. Give it a try, and I am certain you will find yourself coming back to this comforting dish week after week!

Frequently Asked Questions: Lebanese Spaghetti with Yogurt Help

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of plain yogurt?

Yes! You can absolutely use either plain yogurt or Greek yogurt for this recipe. Traditional plain yogurt provides a slightly thinner, more authentic Mediterranean consistency, while Greek yogurt will yield an exceptionally rich and ultra-creamy garlic sauce. Whichever option you choose, ensure it is full-fat and at room temperature before mixing to prevent clumping when tossed with the warm pasta.

How do I prevent the yogurt sauce from curdling?

No curdling is involved because you don’t cook the yogurt! The secret to a perfectly smooth yogurt sauce is to avoid placing the yogurt over direct heat on the stovetop entirely. Instead, simply sauté your crushed garlic in olive oil separately, whisk it into the cool or room-temperature yogurt base, and then pour that fresh, raw sauce directly over the warm, freshly drained spaghetti. The residual heat from the boiled noodles is more than enough to warm the sauce beautifully without breaking or separating the dairy.

Can I add protein or other toppings to this pasta dish?

While this quick recipe is traditionally kept simple and meatless as a frugal comfort food, it makes an excellent base for variations. You can easily elevate the dish by topping it with warm, seasoned minced lamb or beef, or a handful of toasted pine nuts or slivered almonds sautéed in a little butter for an authentic Lebanese touch.

What is the best way to reheat leftovers?

Because yogurt sauces can easily separate or turn watery when exposed to intense heat, this dish is best enjoyed immediately after tossing. However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat very gently on the low setting of a microwave in short intervals, stirring frequently, or serve it cold as a refreshing, garlicky pasta salad!
