Best Soups for Ramadan

Lebanese Brown Lentil Soup
This recipe comes from my late grandmother, affectionately known as “Teta Roro.” She was celebrated in her community for her exceptional cooking, and her recipes have truly stood the test of time. This Lebanese brown lentil soup was one of her signature dishes, making an appearance at nearly every extended family gathering. More than just a comforting bowl of soup, it’s a cherished family recipe that brings back beautiful memories of my beloved Teta Roro.

Lebanese Red Lentil Soup with Vegetables
This authentic Lebanese and Middle Eastern red lentil soup is a Ramadan favorite, but it’s delicious enough to enjoy all year round, especially on a chilly or rainy day. A beloved staple in Lebanon and across the Middle East, this comforting soup comes in many variations, with each country and family adding its own special touch. Naturally creamy, smooth, and nourishing, this red lentil soup is the perfect way to warm up and replenish your energy after a long day of fasting.

Turkish Red Lentil Soup (Mercimek Çorbası)
This comforting Turkish classic is just what you need to soothe your hunger, unwind after a long day of fasting, and awaken your appetite. It’s incredibly satisfying, and knowing how nourishing it is makes every spoonful even more enjoyable! This soup has earned rave reviews from friends and guests who have tried it at my home. And on top of all that, it’s naturally vegan and gluten-free!
This recipe is my homemade take on a delicious red lentil soup I enjoyed during my most recent visit to Istanbul just a few weeks ago. Ramzi took me to Atölye Restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul, where I had a bowl of this wonderful soup. I loved it so much that I was inspired to recreate it in my own kitchen and share it with you!

Corn Chicken Soup from Scratch
While this hearty soup isn’t a traditional Ramadan dish like Lebanese Brown Lentil Soup, Turkish Red Lentil Soup (Mercimek Çorbası), or Lebanese Red Lentil Soup, it’s still a beloved family favorite! Although this homemade corn chicken soup isn’t Lebanese or Middle Eastern, we make it once or twice during Ramadan and enjoy it throughout the year, too. It’s a comforting, nourishing one-pot meal that’s perfect for busy days when you want something warm and satisfying without spending hours in the kitchen. If you’re looking for a new homemade chicken soup recipe to add to your collection, let’s make a batch together. I bet you’re going to love it!

Adas Bhamod (Lebanese Sour Lentil Soup)
This comforting, home-style Lebanese soup is a heartwarming dish that my mom made all the time when I was growing up. It was the first soup I learned to make, and for good reason: Adas Bhamod is a beloved staple of Lebanese cuisine. Made with a handful of simple ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, this traditional Lebanese sour lentil soup is a wonderful way to bring authentic Middle Eastern flavors to your table. Every bowl is packed with vibrant colors, delicious flavors, and satisfying textures that will delight your taste buds!

Broccoli and Cheese Soup
There’s nothing more comforting than enjoying a steaming bowl of soup after a long day of fasting. This quick and delicious broccoli and cheese soup is made with fresh broccoli, cheese, milk, and sautéed onions for a creamy, flavorful, and satisfying meal. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for your Ramadan iftar table, or any time you’re craving a warm bowl of homemade goodness. Prefer a smooth, velvety texture? Simply blend the soup until creamy. Personally, I love it chunky, with tender broccoli pieces in every spoonful!

Asparagus-Potato Soup
What could be more comforting than a steaming bowl of homemade soup on a chilly day? This creamy asparagus-potato soup is rich in flavor, velvety in texture, and wonderfully satisfying. I absolutely love the combination of tender asparagus and creamy potatoes, which come together to create a delicious, comforting soup that’s perfect for cold days or a cozy Ramadan iftar meal.

Creamy Carrot Soup
Ginger and curry leaves give this creamy carrot soup a wonderfully comforting aroma and a delicious depth of flavor. The result is a warm, nourishing soup that’s as tasty as it is wholesome! Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and alpha-carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A to support healthy vision and skin. They’re also an excellent source of dietary fiber. With its vibrant color, aromatic spices, and nourishing ingredients, this creamy carrot soup is a delicious addition to your Ramadan menu and a comforting choice to enjoy all year round!

Cream of Mushroom Soup
Cream of mushroom soup is still one of my all-time favorite soups, and it deserves a place on your Ramadan table! It’s easy to make and ready in less than an hour. Creamy, smooth, and wonderfully luxurious, this comforting homemade soup is perfect for breaking your fast or enjoying any time you crave a warm, satisfying bowl of goodness.

Vegetable and Beef Soup/ Shorbit Khodra Bil Lahmeh
This wholesome Lebanese vegetable and beef soup, known as Shorbit Al Khodra Bil Lahme, is an old family favorite that has stood the test of time. A bowl of this hearty soup is the ultimate comfort food on a cold day, combining tender beef, potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, and tomatoes in a richly seasoned broth.

Turkish Lebeniye Soup/ Lebeniye Çorbası
The soup is made with plain yogurt diluted with water and thickened with a mixture of egg and flour, giving it a wonderfully creamy texture with a subtle sourness. To finish, a drizzle of melted butter infused with dried mint adds an aromatic burst of flavor that brightens every spoonful.
Comforting, nourishing, and richly flavored, Turkish Lebeniye Soup is a lovely addition to your Ramadan soup collection. Just be sure not to confuse it with Lebanese Kibbeh Labanieh, a different traditional dish made with yogurt and kibbeh!
