The chicken is simmered with water separately with a classic aromatic spice mixture allowing the chicken to pick up the flavors of the seasoning \u2014 and you&#8217;re left with a tasty broth to make the rice with; while the rice and chicken are the star of the show, minced meat gives the dish its distinct flavor.<\/p>\n<h1>Ingredients needed to make Riz Ala Djaj aka Lebanese- Style Rice with Chicken<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Rice<\/li>\n<li>Whole chicken<\/li>\n<li>Minced beef or lamb<\/li>\n<li>Seven spice<\/li>\n<li>Cinnamon powder<\/li>\n<li>Pine nuts<\/li>\n<li>Blanched and sliced Almonds, or use slivered almonds<\/li>\n<li>Ghee\/ butter<\/li>\n<li>Sunflower oil<\/li>\n<li>Salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To season the chicken while simmering:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Onion<\/li>\n<li>Cardamom pods<\/li>\n<li>Bay leaves<\/li>\n<li>Cinnamon stick<\/li>\n<li>Whole cloves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17002 size-full\" title=\"55\" src=\"https:\/\/hadiaslebanesecuisine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/55.jpg\" alt=\"55\" width=\"700\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hadiaslebanesecuisine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/55.jpg 700w, https:\/\/hadiaslebanesecuisine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/55-233x300.jpg 233w, https:\/\/hadiaslebanesecuisine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/55-640x823.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>Why do you need to simmer the chicken on the stovetop for long?<\/h1>\n<p>I usually simmer the chicken in water it for 2 to 3 hours on low heat, the result will be way better if you to give the chicken enough time to break down the collagen and untangle the proteins; the mentioned time will literally make the chicken fall off the bones, plus, this will create a flavorful broth to make the rice with.<\/p>\n<h1>Can I use a pressure cooker to simmer the chicken?<\/h1>\n<p>Absolutely yes, it will save time, I don&#8217;t use pressure cooker, but it could be a good idea.<\/p>\n<h1>To cut down on cooking time!<\/h1>\n<p>The rice can be ready in 30 minutes, but the chicken needs time to cook, as mentioned above, to help keep this recipe within that time frame, cook the chicken one day before, and save both chicken and broth in the fridge.
